As chief bridge engineer we reviewed the structural evaluation, analysis, and rehabilitation of this 60-year-old steel tied-arch bridge. Developed material testing procedures, load rating approach, and structural analysis methods to determine the bridge member capacity. This tied-arch bridge is an existing single-span steel tied-arch bridge with a span of 185 feet and vertical hangers; all are steel sections. This tied arch was unique in that the bottom chord had a hinge at mid-span. The analysis proved that by removing the hinge and making the bottom chord continuous, the capacity would improve. Rehabilitation measures were taken to modify the bottom chord accordingly.
